The romantic ballet Giselle tells of the power of true love and spins the myth of a peasant girl who dies of a broken heart when she learns that her lover, Albrecht, is betrothed to another. Led by their queen Myrtha, the Wilis—spirits of girls betrayed—take revenge on Albrecht by forcing him to dance to his death. Giselle’s love frees him from their grasp, and her forgiveness frees her from their fate. The beautiful score by Adolphe Adam is performed by the Manassas Ballet Theatre Orchestra.
