University of Houston clarinet professor Yevgeny Dokshansky takes the stage as guest artist for this all-American program, featuring the world premiere of Jacob Kohut’s clarinet concerto, Three American Landscapes. Praised by BBC Music Magazine as “highly engaging,” the Belarusian-born American clarinetist also serves as principal clarinet of Baltimore’s Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra. Formerly a professor at the Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts, this superb performer brings his expressive artistry to the Hylton Center stage to introduce an exciting new addition to the clarinet repertoire.
Dr. Jacob Kohut—a Northern Virginia-based composer, devoted educator, and sergeant in the 257th Army Band—created this innovative work on a commission by the Manassas Symphony. The program is rounded out with music by Florence Price and Virgil Thomson, concluding with Aaron Copland’s evocative Suite from Billy the Kid.
