Rossini: Overture to Il Barbiere di Siviglia
He Zhanhao & Chen Gang: The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto
Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique
Founded in 1956, the Shanghai Opera Symphony Orchestra is celebrated for its refined interpretation of classical symphonic repertoire. Considered one of the finest symphony orchestras in China, the orchestra has toured extensively in Europe and Asia, performing masterpieces by the world’s most historic and familiar composers, as well as the works of celebrated Chinese composers. On its first North American tour, this extraordinary orchestra performs a program that celebrates both western and eastern traditions, including well-known music by Rossini and Berlioz, as well as one of China’s most famous compositions, He Zhanhao and Chen Gang’s The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto. In this beautifully melodic work, the violin soloist seamlessly combines western tonalities with uniquely Chinese techniques.
