LLI: You've Got to Have a Dream

This presentation will cover the 40-year career of Oscar Hammerstein and his contributions to American musical theatre. Although well- known as a lyricist, Hammerstein made major contributions to the form of the American musical as a writer of the musicals’ books. The presentation will include video clips from Hammerstein’s plays, along with rare interview clips.
Dan Sherman has a love of both American history and musical theatre and has taught more than 20 classes on these topics for OLLI at George Mason University. He has also offered classes on opera and architecture. He earned his doctorate in economics at Cornell University and is a managing director at the American Institute for Research (AIR) in Washington, D.C. He presented “Hamilton: The Man and the Musical” for LLI-Manassas this past semester.
